INSIDE THE HIVE

A Night of Art + Community at Black Umbrella Gallery

Updated: Apr 7

On Friday, April 4th, BHAC quietly hosted its first art showcase in collaboration with Black Umbrella Tattoo & Art Gallery in Old Town Garden Grove. This night marked the beginning of a new chapter, as we returned to curating after a brief hiatus to allow our founder time to heal from a head injury.

Despite the soft rollout, the evening buzzed with creative energy. We joined the rhythm of the weekly Friday night car show on Main Street, where classic engines roared and local culture thrived just outside our doors. Inside the gallery, a diverse and soulful collection of work from artists Pmd, Gail Long, Jose Alcantar, and Marcus Maldonado lit up the space.

Gail Long opened the night with a live drawing session at the front of the gallery, inviting guests to watch his process unfold. In true BHAC fashion, we played a collaborative art game—passing charcoal from hand to hand, each participant adding their own line, squiggle, or swirl to a shared piece. Live music added to the atmosphere, as laughter and inspiration filled the gallery. Guests drifted in and out, many drawn in by the sounds, sights, and community connection.

We were especially proud to welcome Marcus Maldonado for his debut show. A first-time exhibitor, Marcus shared his abstract pieces with the public for the first time—and sold three of them before the night was over. His work and presence added something truly special to the evening, and we look forward to seeing more from him in future exhibits.

It was a successful and soulful night of art, connection, and new beginnings.
